Beginner Hydration: Why It Matters

One of the simplest things you can do to improve your health is also one of the most overlooked.

Drink more water.

I know that sounds almost too simple, but hydration affects nearly everything your body does. Your energy, focus, recovery, digestion, joints, and even how you feel throughout the day can all be influenced by whether you're properly hydrated.

The funny thing is that many people walk around slightly dehydrated and don't even realize it.

They feel tired.

They have a headache.

They struggle to focus.

The first thing they reach for is another cup of coffee or an energy drink when sometimes their body is simply asking for water.

Some people ask me, "Coach, how much water should I drink?"

My answer is usually the same.

Drink enough that your body doesn't have to ask for it. A simple guide is to pay attention to your urine color. Pale yellow is generally a good sign. Dark yellow often means it's time to grab a glass of water. Your body is pretty smart. If you'll listen to it, it usually gives you clues about what it needs.

Hydration also plays a role in performance. Whether you're working out, mowing the yard, working outside, or simply getting through a busy day, your body performs better when it has the fluids it needs.

Another thing I've noticed with clients is that thirst often disguises itself as hunger. Sometimes people think they need a snack when what they really need is a glass of water.

The good news is you don't need a complicated hydration plan.

Keep a water bottle nearby.

Drink a glass of water with meals.

Take a few sips throughout the day.

Start making water your first choice more often.

Those small habits add up.

At FITTness™, we believe health doesn't have to be complicated. Sometimes the biggest improvements come from doing the simple things consistently.

And drinking enough water is one of those simple things.

If you're looking for a place to start, start with water. Before you overhaul your diet, buy supplements, or chase the latest health trend, make sure you're giving your body enough fluids to do what it was designed to do. Sometimes the answer isn't more complicated. Sometimes it's as simple as filling up your water bottle and taking the next sip.

Have a healthy and blessed day,

They feel tired.

They feel sluggish.

They have a headache.

They struggle to focus.

The first thing they reach for is another cup of coffee or an energy drink when sometimes their body is simply asking for water.

One of the easiest ways to check your hydration is something I call the "urine test."

It's not complicated.

Take a look when you go to the bathroom.

If your urine is pale yellow, you're probably doing pretty well. If it's dark yellow or has a strong color, your body is often telling you it needs more fluids. It's one of the simplest self-checks you can do throughout the day.

Now, don't get obsessed with it, but it can give you a quick idea of where you stand.
