Healthy Fats: Friend, Not Enemy

For many years, dietary fat was blamed for weight gain, heart disease, and numerous health problems. As a result, countless people began avoiding fat whenever possible. The truth, however, is that healthy fats are an essential part of good nutrition and overall health.

Your body needs fat to function properly. Healthy fats help support hormone production, brain function, cell health, nutrient absorption, and long-term energy. In fact, certain vitamins—including Vitamins A, D, E, and K—require dietary fat in order to be properly absorbed and utilized by the body.

The key is understanding the difference between healthy fats and unhealthy fats. Sources of healthy fats include avocados, nuts, seeds, olive oil, fatty fish, natural nut butters, and olives. These foods provide important nutrients and can support heart health when consumed as part of a balanced diet.

Not all fats are beneficial. Highly processed foods, excessive fried foods, and products containing artificial trans fats can contribute to inflammation and may negatively impact health when consumed regularly. This is why food quality matters far more than simply looking at the fat content listed on a label.

Healthy fats can also help with satiety. Meals that contain a reasonable amount of healthy fat often leave people feeling satisfied longer than meals that contain mostly refined carbohydrates. This can make it easier to control hunger and avoid unnecessary snacking throughout the day.

At FITTness™, we encourage people to stop fearing healthy fats and start viewing them as another valuable nutritional tool. Nutrition is not about eliminating entire food groups. It is about creating balance, making informed choices, and developing habits that support long-term success.

Small, sustainable choices almost always outperform extreme restrictions.

A COACH'S THOUGHT TO CARRY WITH YOU

Many people spend years avoiding foods that their body actually needs. Healthy fats are not the enemy. They are part of the fuel that helps your body function, recover, and thrive. Focus less on fear and more on understanding. The more you learn about nutrition, the more confident and empowered your choices become.

Have a healthy and blessed day,

Coach Rich
