We Eat With Our Eyes First

Have you ever noticed that food just tastes better when it looks good?
I know that sounds strange but think about it. If I put a healthy meal on a paper plate and just pile everything together, most people are going to look at it and think, "Well, that's healthy, but it doesn't look very exciting."
Now take that same food and put it on a nice plate. Add some color. Spread it out a little. Suddenly, it looks like something you actually want to eat.
The truth is, we eat with our eyes before we ever take the first bite.
Ever wonder why restaurant food often seems more appealing than the same meal at home? It's not always the food itself. A lot of times it's the presentation.
That's why they spend so much time making food look appealing. They understand that presentation matters. The funny thing is that we often don't do that for ourselves at home.
Healthy eating doesn't have to look boring.
A plate with colorful vegetables, fresh fruit, lean protein, and a healthy carbohydrate can look just as inviting as many of the foods we know aren't helping us reach our goals.
I've found that when people take a little pride in preparing their meals, they often enjoy them more. They slow down. They appreciate the food. They become more mindful of what they're eating.
You don't have to become a chef. You don't need fancy plates. Just take a minute and make your food look like something worth eating.
Nutrition isn't punishment. It's nourishment.
And sometimes the difference between sticking with a healthy eating plan and giving up has less to do with the food itself and more to do with how we feel about it.
A Coach's Thought to Carry With YOU
If you're trying to eat healthier, don't just focus on what's on your plate. Pay attention to how it looks too. Healthy food should feel inviting, not like a sentence you're serving yourself. A little effort in presentation can go a long way toward making healthy habits easier to maintain.
Have a healthy and blessed day,
